About the Editor

Hey! I’m Dani Lee Sepe, a Nutley-based journalist, editor, and lifelong New Jerseyan. My work in hyper-local journalism has taken me from municipal meetings and community events to reporting on the people, organizations and everyday stories happening around North Jersey. Before moving more fully into journalism, I worked across editorial communications, magazines, photography, and my origins in graphic design. To this day, my background still comes in handy when I’m out with my Olympus camera, writing a story, and designing the article layout.

I jokingly call myself the “Nutley Cryptid” because I can be spotted all over town with my binoculars and camera. If you encounter me looking up into the trees for a long duration of time, don’t worry — I’m outside working on my next story for Nutley Nature News.

The Nutley Nature News Story

I created Nutley Nature News to gather information about our wild neighbors that share our little corner of New Jersey. I’m especially interested in the birds we pass every day without knowing much about them, the wildlife stories unfolding in our parks and neighborhoods, and the questions that start with simply noticing something outside. My goal is to make local nature journalism approachable, carefully researched, and 100% Nutley — whether I’m digging through scientific sources, talking with a neighbor, or wandering around town on my “bird beat”.

I was inspired by learning that Nutley has a family of Bald Eagles, and I became focused on sharing information about our local wildlife to people and families of all ages. I was taking notes and planning ahead well before I began posting on any of the social media accounts. From then on, my mission became sharing knowledge on the animals we live next to. I especially had encouragement and support from friends, family, and my fellow Nutley residents, and I am grateful for the energy they’ve emboldened me to have.
