American Robin

American Robin

Posted on September 2, 2026

A familiar bobbing bird, found hopping with an upright stance, and commonly found on lawns and parks throughout Nutley. This bird often nests on porches and windowsills with iconic blue eggs. They can be observed assembling in flocks by day.

The sexes are similar, while the males have blacker heads and slightly more vivid coloration. Their chests are brick red with a gray back and streaks of white on their chins with yellow beaks. Juveniles appear differently with mottled and spotted plumage with a blush of red on their chests.

As an ubiquitous songbird, Nutley residents can commonly locate them by hearing their songs as they rise and fall in pitch: cheer-up, cheerily, cheer-up, cheerily.

Species name: Turdus migratorius
